neighborhood bridges - Westerville Honors "Advocates of the Year"!
WESTERVILLE, Ohio, (March 15, 2021) — neighborhood bridges, a nonprofit organization that champions local giving to impact students & families in need, is pleased to announce its first ever Advocates of the Year in Westerville.
Two amazing and caring counselors in Westerville City Schools have been chosen as the first recipients of what will be an annual award. This year’s neighborhood bridges - Westerville Advocates of the Year are Nikki Dunbar, Mental Health Specialist – Westerville North High School, and Jenny Scherer, Counselor – Hawthorne Elementary.
Jenny and Nikki have been chosen for their continued advocacy for their students and for regularly directing impact by posting needs and partnering with neighborhood bridges to bring about more equity and hope for all students in the Westerville City Schools community.
Over the past year neighborhood bridges experienced a 550% growth in impact as 113,00+ students and families were served. Thanks to advocates like Nikki and Jenny…and our amazing community…Westerville led all neighborhood communities in terms of direct impact since the onset of the Covid 19 pandemic.
“neighborhood bridges is designed to provide a tool and community engagement for school counselors and social workers. Nikki Dunbar and Jenny Scherer are relentless in seeking ways to drive support for their students in need. They represent the best of the best in our community and we wanted to simply say Thank You”, Rick Bannister, ceo, neighborhood bridges.
For their efforts neighborhood bridges decided to give each a planter of gift cards to local businesses so that they can pamper themselves a bit, while supporting locally owned businesses. March was chosen for what will be an annual award in Westerville as March is also national social work month.
