This Device Is Her Voice 💙
We have a special opportunity to support one of our Reading students as she prepares for life after graduation.
This student is nonverbal and relies on a communication device to express her wants, needs, thoughts, and feelings. While at Reading, she has successfully used an iPad through HCESC with the TouchChat program, a communication app that gives her a voice by allowing her to select words, pictures, and phrases that the device then speaks aloud.
Unfortunately, once she graduates, she will no longer have access to this essential device. The school is using grant funds to purchase the TouchChat program for her, but she will still need a device to use it on.
Now, we are hoping our community can help with the remaining need:

This iPad will allow her to continue using TouchChat, giving her the ability to communicate, advocate for herself, and stay connected with the world around her. This is not just a device. It is her voice.
Support with Medical Bill
A hardworking high school senior balancing school and a 30-hour work week is helping her dad pay for an unexpected wisdom teeth procedure. They are covering as much as they can, but could use community support with the remaining balance. Any help would truly make a difference.

Speakers Needed! Reading Elementary School Career Day March 24
On March 24, Reading Elementary will be hosting a Career Exploration Day event from 8:15 to 2:30. At this event kindergarten-6 grade students will have the opportunity to hear from different guest speakers in the community and learn about a variety of career pathways. Career Exploration Day will provide a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn about various professions and discover a wide array of possibilities that await them in their future.
We are seeking volunteers who are willing to share their professional experience and expertise with our students. Participation in this event can make a significant impact on our students' understanding of some of the opportunities available to them upon their eventual graduation from Reading!
The goal of this event is to create a hands-on experience to expose our students to different career opportunities. Guest speakers will have a table in the gym to present hands-on demonstrations/lessons to teach students about what they do. Students will rotate through different speakers in the gym and will be spending approximately 5 minutes at each station, so quick and powerpoint free lessons are requested.
How to Get Involved:
1. Sign Up: If you are interested in being a presenter, please fill out the Google Form linked HERE. There will be an opportunity for you to select a partial day spot or a full day spot on this form.
2. Spread the word: If you have any friends, family, or colleagues who may be interested in helping us with this event, please forward them this email and have them complete the Google Form linked HERE.
