Weekly Food Bags - Symmes Elementary

Sycamore Bridges received a generous community grant to help fund weekly food bags distributed to students at Symmes Elementary. Currently, Sycamore Presbyterian Church has been offering this service to 82 of our students every week this school year. We are thrilled to offset some of their expenses, thereby allowing them to expand their offerings. Sycamore Presbyterian will continue to handle the assembly and distribution of food bags each week, but we will collect items to help fill the bags as needed. For the month of April, we are requesting Chef Boyardee Chicken and Rice Bowls. Our goal is to collect 200+ bowls by the end of the month. These can be purchased at your local grocery store, or you are welcome to use our Amazon list and PURCHASE HERE to have your items shipped directly to us. If you would like to shop on your own, reply to this post and delivery instructions will be emailed to you.

HS Bridges Backroom Deodorant Restock

Sycamore Bridges is restocking low inventory for the Sycamore High School Bridges Backroom. At the present time, we are in need of male deodorant. Thanks to a local grant, the cost to fill this request has been covered in its entirety. No additional funds are needed.

HS Student Seeking Help to Attend DECA Internationals

Sycamore Bridges is working with a HS teacher and counselor to fund a student's hard-earned trip to DECA Internationals. The student's stellar performance at the State-level DECA Career Development Conference a few weeks ago earned a spot to compete at DECA Internationals in Orlando, FL next month. However, the family is unable to afford the cost of the trip, especially after just funding the student's trip to Columbus for the State competition. This unique opportunity provides the student with targeted experiences, valuable marketing training, networking opportunities, and tons of fun memories. The cost to attend DECA Internationals is $575. If you would like to contribute to this request, CLICK HERE and designate your gift to "DECA Student".

Work Shoes for Aviator Launch Transition Student

Sycamore Bridges is working with an Aviator Launch Transition Program teacher to help a student who recently started working a new job in the evening and weekends. Unfortunately, the student has been complaining of back and foot pain since beginning her job. An agency helped her purchase work shoes, but the quality is not sufficient to withstand the long hours she spends on her feet. The incredibly caring Aviator Launch Transition teacher has taken the student shopping to be properly fit for a suitable pair of shoes for her needs. We would like to cover the cost of these shoes in its entirely ($150). If you would like to contribute to this request, CLICK HERE and designate your donation to "Shoes".

Annual Scholarships for Graduating Seniors

Sycamore Bridges is again awarding two $1,500 scholarships to graduating seniors as they continue their educational journey.

The Frank Forsthoefel Scholarship recognizes a student who is pursuing higher education in any capacity, whether trade school, community college, or a traditional 4-year institution, where the added expense creates an undue burden for the student. In his role as Superintendent, Mr. Forsthoefel simply embodied our mission of removing barriers, providing for basic needs, and seeking equity for students so they can engage and succeed in school and life. He worked tirelessly to support all of our students so they could reach their full potential. We honor his legacy and continue his example with this gift.

The Karen Naber Scholarship recognizes a student who has demonstrated a strong track record for community service. Mrs. Naber spent her Sycamore career focused on engaging and serving the greater community through innovative means. She is actually credited with introducing Neighborhood Bridges to Sycamore, just one of many examples of her humble service, not only to our students but to our neighbors. Ideally, the recipient of this scholarship has taken advantage of or even created service opportunities through school-sanctioned events, extracurricular activities, and/or community organizations.

We encourage all graduating seniors to apply for these awards through the local scholarships application. The recipients will be selected by the HS counseling team and presented at Senior Awards Night this May. Thanks to a generous donation, these scholarships have been fully funded for the Class of 2025!! If you would like to contribute to our scholarship fund for future recipients or a specific graduating class, reply to this post and donation information will be emailed to you.

Apartment Fire

Sycamore Bridges was notified of a large-scale apartment fire earlier this week affecting several Sycamore families. Thankfully everyone is safe and unharmed; however, one apartment has been deemed a total loss. The family is left with only the clothing on their backs. We have been asked to provide a few gift cards so they can begin rebuilding their wardrobes. Due to the urgent nature of this request, we have purchased a $300 gift card to Target and a $300 gift card to TJ Maxx so mom, dad, and student can begin feeling whole again. If you would like to offer assistance, CLICK HERE and designate your donation to "Fire". Any overage of funds will be used to support the family with additional needs as they move into their new home.
