Sycamore Bridges

Sycamore Bridges was asked by the HS administration to supply snacks for summer school students. Administration shared that students have been working hard to achieve their academic goals and could use a boost to keep morale and motivation going strong. Many of these students do not have access or resources to bring snacks to school with them, so we are providing a variety of treats to push these students to the finish line. Thanks to our growing community of monthly donors, this request was filled before being posted! Check out our social media pages to see the fun snacks we provided (as requested by the students). Sycamore Bridges is working with the Sycamore Child Nutrition and Wellness Director to assist a group of students who maintain significant school lunch debt. All of these students have qualified for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program, but not before accumulating this debt. In the coming weeks, these balances will carry over to the new school year as required school fees that could potentially affect the students' abilities to participate in certain activities. Our hope is to alleviate as much debt as possible so the families can begin a new school year with a fresh start and zero balance. The total requested is $879.60. Did you know that Operation Give Back's Food Pantry also offers pet food to our four-legged, furry neighbors? Affectionally called the OGB Pet "Pawntry", this thoughtful offering helps relieve burdens for already struggling families. Oftentimes, families must surrender their pets when finances become tight and they are faced with the dilemma of feeding themselves or their pets. This can lead to emotional pain in a stressful situation, and overcrowds the already congested animal shelter system. That's why the OGB Pet Pawntry offers dog and cat food to make sure these precious members of the family remain intact.

The Chow Now Pantry of the SPCA provides ongoing kibble donations to keep the OGB shelves stocked. But they are running critically low on wet pet food options. Sycamore Bridges is working with Operation Give Back to collect backpacks in preparation for their annual School Supply Giveaway in August. Even though it feels like summer just began, our friends at OGB are hard at work getting ready for the start of school. Every year they host a School Supply Giveaway where eligible students receive a new backpack filled with all the essentials needed for a successful school year. They anticipate serving 900 students this year! Let's spread some Sycamore love and help them stock their shelves with backpacks. OGB put together THIS WISH LIST based on their numbers. Sycamore Bridges is working with the Sycamore Schools social worker to help fund therapy sessions for a young student. Due to the sensitive nature of this request, we are not able to share any details. However, the student is actively engaged in private therapy sessions to overcome trauma that affected them socially, emotionally, and academically. Without insurance coverage, the costs for this treatment can add up quickly, so we are funding sessions through the summer to ensure the student is ready to return to the 26/27 school year in a healthy state of mind. Thanks to our generous Kindness Council member, Mental Matters Mission, the student's summer therapy has been covered in full. No additional donations are needed at this time. We will update this request should it be recommended to continue sessions this Fall.

With the school year ending, some families struggle to provide three nutritious meals a day for their children. Sycamore Bridges is working with our Kindness Council partner Sycamore Presbyterian to continue their supplemental food program by helping fill 19 Summer Food Boxes for families from Symmes Elementary that will be distributed mid-June and again in mid-July. These boxes will contain a variety of shelf staple items, including proteins, fruits, vegetables, soups, beans, pastas and grains. In addition, they will include fresh fruit and bread. Thanks to a gift from the Symmes Elementary PTO, many of these items have already been purchased. We have been asked to supplement the boxes with a few fan favorites.
