Opportunities for Kindness

Seeking Gently Used Washing Machine

Sycamore Bridges is working with the Sycamore Community Schools social worker to find a gently used washing machine for a hard-working mom. Mom has been without a washing machine for a few months now and it's been a struggle to stay on top of her laundry. If you have access to a working washing machine, please contact us so we can arrange a pick up.

Seeking Winter Coats

Spring cleaning?? With the weather finally getting warmer, Sycamore Bridges is collecting winter coats and oversized adult hoodies in an effort to pre-stock the Operation Give Back Coat Giveaway next winter. This collection will run from now until April 11. We are seeking new or very gently used coats in all styles and sizes (infant, toddler, youth and adult). Gently used items should be free of rips, holes and stains, and must have working buttons and zippers. If you have a coat taking up space in your closet or a teenager who refuses to wear a coat, reply to this post and we will email you a list of drop off locations.

If you prefer to take advantage of the incredible sales going on now and purchase a new coat, please use our AMAZON LIST to have it sent directly to us. Just select "Sycamore Bridges" at shipping.

Or, if you would like us to do the shopping, CLICK HERE and designate your donation to “Winter Coats”. We appreciate you helping take care of our neighbors!

Meal Tickets for Prom Mentors for Special Needs Students

Sycamore Bridges is working with a Sycamore High School teacher to fund prom meal tickets for a group of dedicated college-aged mentors who have been working closely our special needs students. This year, there are 4 leaders who have volunteered their time to provide meaningful high school experiences throughout the school year. These mentors have agreed to attend prom with our students, so we would like to cover some of their expenses for the evening. Although they are not charged to enter the dance as chaperones, we would like to buy their dinner so they can sit with the students during mealtime to provide appropriate peer modeling and complete the authentic experience. We are collecting a reduced fee of $45/mentor, or $180 total. We only have $80 left to collect on this request. If you would like to contribute, CLICK HERE and designate your gift to "Prom Mentors".

Partial Rent for April

Sycamore Bridges is working with a community advocate to help a young family with a partial rent payment. Dad was recently laid off work and the family is short $377 to make their April rent. They have been connected to other community resources to help them secure new employment. We would like to cover this balance to give them ample time to get back on their feet before their May rent is due. If you would like to offer assistance, CLICK HERE and designate your donation to "Partial Rent".

Prom Tickets for 5 Students

Sycamore Bridges was contacted by the high counseling team to assist 5 students with purchasing their prom tickets. Each student is in good academic standing with demonstrated financial need and has expressed a desire to attend prom. We would like to make sure these students are able to experience this special night without financial strain. We are collecting $350 (5 tickets at $70 each). Please note we only have $210 left to collect on this request. If you would like to offer assistance, CLICK HERE and designate your donation to "Prom".

Symmes Elementary Weekly Food Bags

Sycamore Bridges is working with our Kindness Council partner, Sycamore Presbyterian, to help fill the weekly food bags that they assemble and donate to our most at-risk students attending Symmes Elementary. We recently received a large, designated donation that allowed us to fund next month's bags and purchase 180 Horizon milks to supplement their offerings. We are so grateful to our generous community that allows us to reach all of our students. No additional donations are needed at this time.

Yearbook for Graduating Senior

Sycamore Bridges is working with a Sycamore HS counselor to assist a graduating senior in obtaining a yearbook. The student's mom contacted the counselor requesting financial assistance in order to gift this keepsake to her child. We would like to cover the cost in full ($75). If you would like to offer assistance, CLICK HERE and designate your donation to "Yearbook".

Donation of Backpacks

Sycamore Bridges received a beautiful donation of gently used, embroidered "Aves" Nike backpacks from the athletic department. These backpacks will be distributed to students who are participating in Operation Give Back summer programs, offering a fun way to carry their summer essentials. We are so grateful for our community partnerships to connect our students to resources otherwise not available to them. No additional donations are needed at this time.
